Comet Holmes was imaged with the following telescopes:

Orion ED80:

The ED80 was mounted on an Orion Atlas EQ-G mount. The EQMOD ASCOM driver was used to drive the mount directly via an EQDIR interface module.

Equipment used:

PHD Guiding software was used for autoguiding. The webcam software WcCtrl was used to enable long exposure modes on the Logitech Fusion webcam while autoguiding.

The following Mosaic was created using images at the same scale taken during the period October 27 through November 13, 2007. Images were taken with an ED80 (10/3-11/13) and also a 120mm Short Tube refractor (10/27-10/31) and show the path and increasing size of the comet:

20" Starmaster:

Imaging Setup:

This sequence shows the increase in size of the comet. On 11/03 it became too large to fit in the FOV of the 20 inch scope:

This animation below uses the frames in the above sequence to show the comet size increase over the period (800KB):

Images and animations taken with the above telescope setups in chronological order:

November 13, 2007 - Animation over 5 hour period : 8:03 pm to 12:54 am (500KB)
