Logitech Fusion Webcam by Gary Honis

When I took the Fusion webcam apart and removed the lens, I found it to be smaller in diameter than the lens of the Philips Vesta Pro webcam as shown below:

To make a rough comparison of how sensitive the Fusion webcam was compared to the Philips Vesta Pro, I imaged a magazine cover in very dim light with the both webcams using K3CCDTools. Settings were:

  • Shutter Speed: 1/25 sec.
  • Brightness: 75%
  • Gain: 75%
  • 640X480 mode
  • Fusion Gamma was 0; Vesta Pro Gamma was 30%
  • For the images below, I exported BMPs in K3CCDTools, resized and saved as JPGs with no other processing.

Click on images below for full size unprocessed images:

    <Vesta Pro

<Fusion (with same exposure settings as Vesta Pro)

<Fusion re-adjusted for exposure and using 704X576 mode.

The comparison above was not the best way to make a comparison but it does give an idea of how the outputs compare. I noticed that the output image of the Fusion was much brighter than the Vesta Pro, using the same exposure settings. However, the Fusion lens is a wider angle lens; both webcams were at the same distance from the magazine cover. If I can find the right size telescope adapter for the Fusion, I can do some astro comparison tests to the Philips Toucam on Mars.
