Peltier Cooled Canon 450D (XSi) & Canon 550D (T2i)

Astro-Tech 5" Astro-Tech 127mm Triplet

Cherry Springs Dark Sky Park - May 16-21, 2012

by Gary Honis

Images through the 5" Triplet were taken with a Peltier Cooled Modified Canon 450D (XSi). Widefield images were taken with a non-modified Canon 550D (T2i) using a Nikon 180mm lens.

The Astro Tech 5" Triplet and ED80 refractor guide scope were mounted on an Orion Atlas EQ-G mount. The EQMOD ASCOM driver was used to drive the mount directly via an EQDIR interface module.

During the 5 night stay at Cherry Springs, we had clear overnight skies and I was able to image four nights til dawn.

Mars & Saturn - by Elliott McKinley

Elliott McKinley was using a Canon 550D (T2i) for the first time before having me modify it. He took these images of Mars and Satrun on May 17 using the T2i's special movie crop mode, 640X480 pxels at 60fps through his 20" f5 Obsession Dobsonian. I processed the movie files using SUPER to convert to AVI and used Registax 5 to stack the best frames:
