Air-cooled Olympus C2000Z Digital Camera - 20" GOTO Starmaster Telescope

by Gary Honis

Ambient temperature was around 50 degrees fahrenheit which allowed for some reduced noise in 32 second exposures with the air-cooled Olympus C2000Z digital camera. M16 images were taken using a 31mm Nagler eyepiece coupled to the digital camera with a televue digital camera adapter.

The aurora was a pleasant surprise; auroral and iridium images were taken with an Olympus C2020Z digital camera with its lens in wide angle mode using 16 second exposures. The sun dog image was taken using the Olympus C2020Z camera with a Tiffen 2X telephoto converter.

Aurora:

The brief auroral rays had little color visually, but the digital camera at 16 second exposures captured some red and green.

Kevin's tent is in the third image above; Ken's tent is in the 4th and 5th images. The wiggly red line in the 4th image is from a red flashlight going from Kevin's to Ken's tent.
