H-Alpha Solar Test

First astro "light" for the modified Pro 9000 webcam was the Sun. Images were taken with an Orion ED80 refractor equipped with a Coronado 60mm H-alpha filter. For surface detail an exposure setting of 1/1000 sec was used and for the faint prominences an exposure setting of 1/100 second was used.

Seeing was poor.

Open Video Capture software was used to capture 30 second AVI files at 1600 X 1200 pixel resolution and 5 frames per second uncompressed. There were no lost frames during the capture. K3CCDTools was used to export the better BMP frames from the AVI files.

One frame was used for the surface detail and one frame was used for the faint prominences and these were layered in Photoshop for the final image.
